Introducing Kaitlyn Margaret! This cutie pie came to me just 6 days after she was born at Grand View Health, and she’s such a sweet little peanut!
I always love when the parents I get to work with share their stories of their surprises and excitement, and I loved this story of the gender reveal:
Matt and Colleen couldn’t wait to find out the gender of their baby, so they decided to do a gender reveal party with close family and friends. To no one’s surprise, Matt wanted a boy, while Colleen was hoping for a girl! On the day of the ultrasound, the technician wrote down the gender on a small index card and sealed it in an envelope (the soon-to-be parents wanted to be surprised too)! For the reveal, they decided on a baker making a dozen cupcakes, with only one of the cupcakes with the specific color icing inside. On the day of the reveal, all the guests chose a cupcake at random . . . and on the count of 3, all the guest bit into their cupcake, with only one revealing the gender. After much anticipation, Colleen’s father said, “I have a cupcake with some colored icing in it . . . (longest pause ever!) . . . .and it’s NOT blue!” Everyone, including the soon-to-be parents, burst into tears of excitement, and despite Matt’s desire for a boy, they could tell he was equally excited for a little girl!
I also loved how they picked their little girl’s name:
Matt and Colleen were on vacation to Dallas, Texas, earlier in the year, and spent the entire vacation contemplating names. For the first name, they were looking for a simple, yet traditional name, and for the middle name, they were looking to incorporate a family name. The first name was a toss-up between Erin, Paige, Lindsey, and Kaitlyn, and the parents finally chose Kaitlyn (Kate for short) because of its Irish, Gaelic origins, meaning “pure.” For the middle name, they listed out all the female family names on both sides of the family and finally landed on Margaret, taken from Kaitlyn’s maternal grandfather’s cousin, which also happens to be her mother’s middle name.
Before the session, I got some pictures of little Kaitlyn’s nursery, so we were able to work together to match colors and backgrounds so that Kaitlyn’s newborn pictures would match her surroundings. I’m always glad when parents reach out to me to take that extra little step to make a session personal like that.
Thank you, Matt & Colleen, for trusting me with your little girl! I’m so excited for you all to be a family of three and know the Kaitlyn is already so loved!
